چکیده

In the ceramic industry half-tone images are often generated from a small number of separations with the result that inks are printed over each other to achieve the final print. This study investigates whether an n-modified spectral Neugebauer-based model, which has been used quite successfully to predict reflectance for prints on paper substrates, can be used to predict the color of half-tone prints on a ceramic base. A set of 800 binary ink mixtures and 100 single-ink mixtures were used to test the model and it was found that best performance (median CIELAB ∆E of 2.73 units) was possible using a high value of the Yule-Nielsen correction factor (n = 20). A Kubelka-Munk model was developed to predict the reflectance factors of the overlap regions in the prints (where one ink dot lies over another). Color differences using the Kubelka-Munk model ranged from 1.8 to 10.4. However, when the measured overlap reflectance spectra were replaced by the Kubelka-Munk predictions in the Neugebauer model the median color difference increased from 2.73 to 3.40 CIELAB units.

Image Segmentation for the Application of the Neugebauer Colour Prediction Model on Inkjet Printed Ceramic Tiles

Colour prediction models (CPM) can be used to analyze the printing quality of halftone-based color printing systems. In this paper, we consider the Neugebauer CPM which requires as input the fraction of occupation of each primary. To obtain these numbers, we apply several image segmentation algorithms, with and without contextual information. These segmentation algorithms are evaluated with res...

Fabrication of a yellow ceramic nano pigment based on zirconium oxide (ZrO2) and iron oxide as dopant (Fe2O3)

In this study, yellow ceramic nano pigments based on ZrO2 (zirconium oxide) were synthesized by solid state method using different value of Fe2O3 as dopant. The pigments were dispersed in solvent by a planetary ball mill and then the inks were printed on the ceramic surface using screen printing method. The samples were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction spectr...

Ink-Jet Printing Cotton with Cationic Reactive Dye Based Inks

The current commercial application of ink-jet reactive inks to cotton fabrics has been through pre-treating with pad liquor prior to printing. In This study made an effort to provide a single phase ink-jet printing process for printing cotton fabric using the novel cationic reactive dye in ink’s formulation. Cotton fabric was printed upon with the novel cationic reactive dye and commercial anio...

A Critical Review of Spectral Models Applied to Binary Color Printing

The recent increase in the use of desktop color applications has increased the need for color management systems, which in turn depend upon device profiles to exchange color information. Device profiles for color printers are based upon printer models. The typical desktop-color user has a binary (halftone) printer. Many models have been proposed for binary color printers; these are traced begin...

Recovering Neugebauer colorant reflectances and ink spreading curves from printed color images

Spectral reflection prediction models, although effective, are impractical for certain industrial applications such as self-calibrating devices and online monitoring because their calibration requires specific color-constant calibration patches. Using the CMYK Ink Spreading enhanced Yule-Nielsen modified Spectral Neugebauer model (IS-YNSN), we propose a method to recover the colorant reflectanc...
